As the lockdown takes grip of our country, many businesses have found them in a sink or swim scenario. Those who fail to adapt, and quickly, find themselves lost amid a sea of companies effectively utilising their digital presence.
Edinburgh has always prided itself on the myriad of excellent eateries and many are excelling in this new normal. From set menus to DIY cocktail kits, we take a look at the top ten lockdown takeaways impressing us.
Tonic, hands down, do some of the best cocktail in Edinburgh. I have been obsessed with their Pornstar Martinis for years so it was absolute music to my ears that not only were they launching a collection service, they were also delivering to ALL EH postcodes!
The concept is simple. You order an array of their finest cocktails either in isolation or as a pack of 6. Cocktails come with optional garnish or egg white where appropriate and arrive in sealed pouches, designed to pop in the fridge. Each comes with simple instructions - all you need is ice and a shaker and you're good to go (by the way, they sell ice shakers too). Flavours include espresso martini, starburst martini, pornstar martini, strawberry daiquiri and their own There's No Place Like Tonic. An absolute must to party on down...in lockdown.
McLarens on the Corner
Situated in the heart of Morningside, whoever thought of the concept behind McLarens on the Corner is a stable genius. The concept is simple - a group of like-minded restaurants and bars have come together to sell the finest of their offerings. Names include Cold Town House, The Huxley, Copper Blossom and more. Fancy steak frites and chips? Or a lobster roll? How about some ice cold pints? Maybe you want to join their meal club - £20 for three delicious courses. This is a company who have smashed up how things are done, resulting in a fantastic market-style option for those looking for the finest food and drink.
I have worked with Hickory Food a fair bit in the past and have never been disappointed. Their food and event catering is unparalleled in Edinburgh and so I am super excited about their soon-to-be-launched delivery service. Operating in central Edinburgh and East Lothian only, Head Chef Gillan Kingstree is concocting a magical menu using the very finest of Scottish ingredients. 83 Hanover Street
When I heard this restaurant were launching a takeaway service, I really missed being out and about in Edinburgh. Hanover Street is at the very heart of the city - this South American restaurant launches Nuestro Sabor en Su Casa / Our Flavours in Your Home this week. Locals can enjoy a six-dish sharing menu coupled with some fantastic takeaway cocktails. Ideal for a lockdown special occasion.
Okay so the market has ALWAYS been a takeaway but they have moved with the times, introducing a click and collect service offering their suppliers' goods for incredible prices. The market has everything from cheese to soap to meat and more. Powered through Neighbourfood, simply create an account, order what you fancy and collect on Sunday between 11am and 3pm. With around 26 suppliers on offer, you are getting some cracking produce and supporting local business too.
And of course, whilst these takeaway options are fantastic for us personally, they also going a long way to ensure these companies around this year and into the future.
