A Visit to Hawksmoor Edinburgh

We had a weekend of fine dining - partially to celebrate our anniversary and friend's birthday, partially to have any old excuse to visit the newly opened Hawksmoor Edinburgh. I had heard great things about the restaurant following the blogger PR launch and the Boys Eat Scotland rave review. Following a below average dinner at The Ivy on the Friday,  we were pretty determined to not be disappointed. We were in luck.

I had vowed I wouldn't have a starter, but when I saw a nearby table's oysters arrived I was sold. Well priced, succulent and easy to eat, I knew the rest of our dinner would be excellent if they were anything to go by. Phil opted for the scampi, which if he had let me, I would have polished off too.

How can I tell you about the main? We both went for the Sirloin and I could not believe the size they were. Don't let that put you off. For comparison, I had ordered a fillet the night before at The Ivy and it was small and tough. For the same price I got almost three times the meat and it was gorgeous. We both ordered some sides: triple cooked fries and spinach for me, which was the perfect amount and both delicious.

We decided against pudding - Phil is on his whisky trail and I didn't want to roll home but the puddings menu was so gooey and British I will go back for them alone. Sticky toffee pudding and clotted cream anyone?

The nicest thing about Hawksmoor Edinburgh was we saw three different people we knew who all loved being or working there. The atmosphere was as far from The Ivy as was possible and the food was simply out of this world. It is difficult to get a table, word has got out about just how good it is, but it is worth waiting a week or two: the hype is most definitely worth it.

Fancy more food?
