Brooklyn Brewery Present: The Launch of Naranjito.

I always wanted to be one of those blonde American girls: on the beach, sipping a bud and relaxing in the sand. Portobello beach doesn't quite have the same effect and sadly I made my mind up from a young age that bud, lager or any beer was absolutely not for me.

And so it continued for 15+ years.

Until last year,  when I was given the opportunity to cover the Beavertown Extravaganza for a client. I was prewarned that there was no prosecco and only unlimited beer and ales on tap and started to panic. It was only when faced with beer or water that I took the plunge and gave the ladiest looking beery option a go. And go I did.

Over the course of the day, I sampled some of the very best beer and ales around; some traditional, others lime green and some that tasted more like wine (hurrah for Mairi!). I discovered that the industry, in a bid to move with the times, was developing products that would appeal to the girliest girl around.

It was also there that my friend introduced me to Brooklyn Brewery. Their beer, stand and staff (much like the Borough it was born in) was pretty damned cool, so when I heard that a launch of their new Naranjito was taking place in Edinburgh, I jumped at the chance to bag a place.

For those beerites reading, here's the techy bit.

Brooklyn Naranjito is a classic American pale ale pushed a tiny bit further. An extra burst of aromatic hops and a sizable helping of sweet orange peel create just the right pop of citrus. It is a combination of American 2-row and carafoam malts, with the addition of sumit and simcoe hops. The alcohol volume is 4.5% and it pairs beautifully with Mexican dishes, tangy cheeses, sunny days, concerts, and anything with a little kick to it.

Best of all, it is perfect for the lady - lover or not of what you assume an ale to be. So, how do I sample this tastiest of Summer treats I hear you ask? Good news! Tickets are available (but limited) to the in demand sample evening on the 4th July at Bodega TollX - either at 6pm or 8.30pm. The evening costs £20 and gives you access to not only Naranjito but three other delicious Brooklyn beers accompanied with tasty Bodega treats perfectly paired to match. To secure your place, buy your tickets now and stay tuned for coverage of the night on my social accounts.
