Meats and Beats Festival: 9th - 10th March, Summerhall
Updated: Jul 12, 2019
Its absolutely acceptable on a Tuesday to start planning your weekend and we have just the event for you! The Meats and Beats Festival returns to Edinburgh this Friday and Saturday at the oh-so-hipster Summerhall and, given its popularity last year, it is not to be missed.
If the title doesn't give it away, the 2-day, food-filled extravaganza will see the likes of Fat Boys, Shanty Town, Bonnie Burrito and (my faves) Rost offering anything from steaks to sausages; pulled pork to Parmesan fries. When I am not stuffing my face with sampling the very best of the Outdoor Street Food Village, you will find me switching decades on the dance floor with cheesy choons galore. The poor DJ doesn't know what he has let himself in for but will try to refrain from requesting Spice Girls on repeat.
In all seriousness, it is incredible that Edinburgh are so keen to host unique events like this. When I was younger, you were lucky if there was one semi-experiential event kicking about, but more and more we are becoming a city that embraces the experience. Described as "where twerk meets jerk, burritos meet Blondie, and wings meet Wham! It's as much about music as it is about food, but most importantly it's about having an unforgettable night out with mates." It is not to be missed. I will be grabbing my boyfriend and dancing boots and be ready to party on Saturday afternoon.
The Festival runs on Friday 9th March, 5.30 - 11pm and Saturday, 12 - 5pm and 6 - 11pm at Summerhall. Tickets cost £8 and are available on their website but be warned, despite the bigger venue this year, the last event was a total sell out so get in quick.
